Dorothy Rabinowitz: Dr. Phil and the Fort Hood Killer - WSJ.com

“To those not terrorized by fear of offending Muslim sensitivities, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan’s motive was instantly clear: It was an act of terrorism by a man with a record of expressing virulent, anti-American, pro-jihadist sentiments. All were conspicuous signs of danger his Army superiors chose to ignore.”

The mother who brought down the Fort Hood killer - Times Online

“Obama urged Americans against “jumping to conclusions” about the killer’s motives.”

and

“[The killer] had shouted the Arabic phrase Allahu akbar (God is greatest) before opening fire, witnesses said.”

Yeah, we wouldn’t want to jump to any conclusions.

Iranian protesters, police clash on US Embassy takeover anniversary | csmonitor.com

“Thousands turned out in the capital’s Haft-e Tir square to commemorate the day in 1979 when students loyal to Iran’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, took over the US Embassy. They shouted “Death to America!” – a show of support for Iran’s conservatively religious, and increasingly authoritarian regime. But another group also convened on the square, shouting a different message: “Death to dictators!”, according to the New York Times.”

Op-Ed Columnist - Safety Nets for the Rich - NYTimes.com

I don’t agree with all of this article, but do agree with this:

“We’ve institutionalized the idea that there are firms that are too big to fail and, therefore, “we, the people” are obliged to see that they don’t — even if that means bankrupting the national treasury and undermining the living standards of ordinary people. What sense does that make? If some company is too big to fail, then it’s too big to exist. Break it up.”

Op-Ed Columnist - Not Good Enough - NYTimes.com

“If Karzai says no, then there is only one answer: “You’re on your own, pal. Have a nice life with the Taliban. We can’t and will not put more American blood and treasure behind a government that behaves like a Mafia family. If you don’t think we will leave — watch this.” (Cue the helicopters.)”

My Way News - Weapons failed US troops during Afghan firefight

“The platoon-sized unit of U.S. soldiers and about two dozen Afghan troops was shooting back with such intensity the barrels on their weapons turned white hot. The high rate of fire appears to have put a number of weapons out of commission, even though the guns are tested and built to operate in extreme conditions.”

Camp Keating That Was Attacked is Abandoned - ABC News

“When we first showed up and put our sensors on Keating, it was just kind of shock,” said Bardwell, 35, of Liman, Wyo., who piloted one of a swarm of Apaches that rushed the base’s defense. “All the amount of flames and the smoke and to see that amount of personnel running outside of their wire. It was really kind of shock.” Lewallen added, “I’ve been on three deployments and I’ve never seen that large of a force attacking one static position.”

It is clear to me that we have already lost the advantage in Afghanistan, and we are indeed losing the war.

White House to Scrap Bush’s Approach to Missile Shield - NYTimes.com

“The Obama administration plans to announce on Thursday that it will scrap former President George W. Bush’s planned missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic and instead deploy a reconfigured system aimed more at intercepting shorter-range Iranian missiles, according to people familiar with the plans.”

“But it made for unfortunate timing, coming on the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland at the start of World War II, a date fraught with sensitivity for Poles who viewed the Bush missile defense system as a political security blanket against Russia.”

With this change in strategy, it appears that Obama is trying to please the Russians while betraying our allies.

Man carries assault rifle to Obama protest -- and it's legal - CNN.com

Notice how they crop the photo so that is is difficult to tell that it is a black man carrying the rifle. It seems that the race of this man doesn’t fit with the media’s stereotype of angry white rednecks carrying guns.

Here is another story with a normal photo of the man.
